I am using shynet for a while now. More than enough data for me, blazing fast, and simple.

Oh that is actually shynet self hosted analytics which is privacy friendly. https://github.com/milesmcc/shynet

But I think I'll just remove it for now.

Update: removed

Shynet: https://github.com/milesmcc/shynet

The goal is to provide modern, privacy-friendly, and detailed web analytics that works without cookies or JS. And it's completely open source.

Full disclosure: I am the primary maintainer.

For a very long time, I've been using shynet [0] on my personal blog. I've not played around the alternatives but there are quite a few:

- Plausible: https://plausible.io/

- umami: https://umami.is/

I have a strong technical background and a passion for digital safety and privacy. I'm especially interested in trust & safety, privacy engineering, human-centered design, tech policy, and open source software.

I'm looking for an internship or fellowship adjacent to trust & safety / privacy engineering.

Some of the projects I’m most proud of are Shynet [0], PrivacySpy [1], PolitiTweet [2], and a17t [3]. I co-instruct CS 106S [4] at Stanford, and I worked on cyber policy for a 2020 presidential campaign. I also work at the Stanford Internet Observatory on both research and technical infrastructure.

I built Shynet [0], a modern, privacy-friendly, and detailed web analytics tool that works without cookies or JS.

I also built a17t [1], an atomic web design toolkit that makes using Tailwind CSS a bit easier from the start.

Remote: yes

Willing to relocate: yes

Technologies: Python, Rust, Elixir, JS/web stack, C, some Haskell, some Lisp, containerization and Kubernetes, general UX work, Linux/public clouds, some cryptography and networking. Some experience with Erlang/OTP.

[0] Check out https://a17t.miles.land (a css library I built) and https://github.com/milesmcc/shynet (my open analytics tool) for samples. I also built https://lensant.com, though I'm less happy with its design.

This looks great! For what it’s worth, I also maintain an open source (and self hosted) website analytics tool called Shynet [0] (someone else mentioned it in this thread, but thought I’d share here as well). Really great to see more options in this area!

[0] https://github.com/milesmcc/shynet

Props to the author for moving to an analytics tool that's more respectful to users.

For anyone who is interested in doing the same, I maintain an open source (and self-hostable) analytics tool called Shynet [0] that works without cookies or requiring any JS.

And to be clear, it isn't a SaaS -- the only way to run Shynet is to self-host it.

It’s great to see more alternatives to GA, and to see those alternatives getting attention.

For those interested, one other FOSS analytics tool is Shynet [0]. Modern, privacy-friendly, and detailed web analytics that works without cookies or JS. It also looks pretty slick. Disclosure: I’m a maintainer.

Props to the author for ditching Google. I just want to point out that there are a LOT of non-Google analytics options out there; leaving Google Analytics really isn’t too hard if you’re willing to take the leap.

Plug: those who want a modern client-side analytics tool that’s free, self hosted, and open source might consider Shynet [0]. (Disclosure: I maintain it.) It’s a bit simpler/cleaner than Matomo, but exists in the same category.

I haven’t used it myself, but I saw that this was released in April: https://github.com/milesmcc/shynet . At least one author is an HN user.
