What does HackerNews think of teams-for-linux?

Unofficial Microsoft Teams for Linux client

Language: JavaScript

#7 in Electron
#22 in Linux
I use https://github.com/IsmaelMartinez/teams-for-linux . It's "just" a wrapper around the PWA but a very decent one at that.
That always frustrated me, even more-so considering how that volunteer-built package I mentioned (https://github.com/IsmaelMartinez/teams-for-linux - an Electron build of the web app, nothing flashy but does the job just fine) does support screen sharing. I haven’t checked whether it supports backgrounds as I only use voice when on calls, but I’m guessing it does if the browser variant does.
I have used https://github.com/IsmaelMartinez/teams-for-linux before, it is quite a nice experience (better than the official app!) and it might be something suitable when the web client is broken with no clear reason why.
Re: video input - does the same problem occur when using the (unofficial, in maintenance-only mode) teams-for-linux[1] client?

(I haven't tried using the Windows version under Wine, sorry)

I had the exact same problem - as others have already said, its a problem with electron not having Wayland support. I solved it in two different ways:

- An unofficial Teams app (https://github.com/IsmaelMartinez/teams-for-linux) which works great - screen sharing works without problems, no crashing, and native notifications!.

- Use teams in qutebrowser: the dev (The-Compiler) added support for screensharing and it works great. Just like the unofficial app above, it also has native notifications, not the weird popup notifications of the official app.

I'm not necessarily a fan of Teams but there's an unofficial Linux client that I use almost daily. It has some issues but mostly works.
