What does HackerNews think of dash-to-panel?
An icon taskbar for the Gnome Shell. This extension moves the dash into the gnome main panel so that the application launchers and system tray are combined into a single panel, similar to that found in KDE Plasma and Windows 7+. A separate dock is no longer needed for easy access to running and favorited applications.

Same here, only with Dash to Panel. But man - I have so many workarounds for standard functionality GNOME either breaks or refuses to implement. A symlink in place of /usr/bin/gnome-terminal, patch sets for GTK 3, custom scripts to work around that you can't configure the screenshot folder...
If you like the Win10 look, dash to panel [1] for Gnome can be almost indistinguishable if you change a few settings.
