What does HackerNews think of nativefier?

Make any web page a desktop application

Language: TypeScript

Oh by "Web Environment" you mean "my machine" lol!

I already got caught by this kind of thing - a https://github.com/nativefier/nativefier app wrapping Youtube Music doesn't work, because Google detects somehow that you are not using a trusted browser and refuses to serve.

This is sort of moving in the "zero trust" (as in let's use ML etc. to detect if we trust something. username/password is not enough), which I fear because it will break a bunch of stuff for genuine users and make things less reliable.

Wow. I've been wishing for this for so long, especially for use in Electron (and things like https://github.com/nativefier/nativefier specifically).

Mr. Gorhill, if you read this: Thank you. You've made browsing the web more enjoyable (/bearable) on a daily basis for me for many years.

I saw it on the awesome selfhost list, and Dashy seems cool and flexible.

To save one more click from the dashboard and allow desktop integration, I now use these:

- https://github.com/nativefier/nativefier - https://github.com/filips123/PWAsForFirefox

.. and wrap self-contained apps to be started from the Start Menu, xfce4-appfinder or (no self-contained apps AFAIK) the Android launcher

Look forward to trying it out, thanks!

If you find yourself in a position of not wanting a specific website mixed in with your browser tabs again but not caring enough to make another native app, check out nativefier. Quickly makes an electron wrapper for any website.
