What does HackerNews think of news-feed-eradicator?
A browser extension that deletes your news feed and replaces it with a nice quote
(and indeed great)
Periodically I go and read through the feeds of family and friends when they happen to be on my mind.
I can still use it as chat, address book, check events or particular updates/mentions, but I am not fed and infinite stream of mind sugar whenever I log in...
I still would love to completely quit... I tried a couple of times but I ended going back to contact particular people or to check out events. Facebook is turning into a basic social survival tool for foreigners living in metropolises and it kinda annoys me a lot.
I use lists extensively to organize friends into groups (work, school, various hobbies). The number of unread posts in a list appears next to it, so I can see the amount of activity in each at a glance instead of endlessly scrolling.
If I really care to see what someone is up to, I just go to their profile.
Maybe it's due to my age bracket (early 20's), but having a an account is a major social benefit and I don't have everyone's email address.
