A Reddit client for Android

Hello HN!

I'm building https://rings.social in response to the Reddit API changes.

My goal is to add a compatibility layer for Reddit clients, so that the switch to Rings will include the already existing apps (Sync, RIF, Apollo, Boost, Infinity, ...).

To try it out on your own, you can compile a version of Infinity for Reddit [1] by doing a one line change [2] that uses either https://api.rings.social or your own backend running on your network.

Please, be aware, the project is still work in progress - you're free to contribute to it and send PRs. You can also help us shape the future of the project via GitHub, email or Slack. By commenting on this thread you'll already help shape it.

Very likely, on non-reddit mobile app clients, you can access pages normally.

Nobody has mentioned Infinity[0][1]- an open source reddit client for Android.

It lets you download videos, hides all ads, and takes care of privacy concerns.

I have used it for almost an year now. And I recommend it.

On mobile,

I use

1) https://i.reddit.com

2) https://github.com/Docile-Alligator/Infinity-For-Reddit

I don't use neither the official bloated site nor official Android app. They are way much animated, bloated, slow.

I think that current focus of reddit is to become social media. Earlier days, reddit was focused on creating better forum, discussion platform. There is gradual change in focus ,i guess.
