Maybe it's isolated to me and my work here on this repo:

I agree that Relay CAN be simple, but it isn't for what we do. Have a look at this ReplyListContainer and its nested Relay logic. I didn't originally write this, but I can see what they were trying to do and how Relay made it difficult for them. Your thoughts are welcome, I won't judge you for being critical of our code and welcome any other Relay dev's opinions.

Yup! We do that at Coral!

Typescript/Node.js/GraphQL back-end with React/Relay/Typescript on the front end.

It's pretty nice having the whole code base share types, syntax, structure, etc. It's served us well for many years!

Some of our clients include: The Washington Post, New York Times, Wired, USA Today, and Financial Times

Coral is poorly advertised outside it's ecosystem, but should be considered. https://github.com/coralproject/talk

See https://docs.coralproject.net/coral/v5/integrating/cms/ to get an idea of it's use.

I've seen some examples in which people embed Discourse discussions.

There's also Coral (https://github.com/coralproject/talk) which used to be Mozilla + Vox project before Mozilla handed it over to Vox completely, but I have no experience with it.

We'd love to be involved: https://coralproject.github.io/talk/

Talk is part of The Coral Project from Mozilla. It's an open source commenting tool now in use on The Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, The Intercept, and many others.

We also conduct research about online communities, as well as publishing strategy guides and trainings. https://coralproject.net/research.html

A new alternative, 2017, both open source and hosted, scroll down to the bottom here to see how it looks:

https://www.kajmagnus.blog/new-embedded-comments

It's called EffectiveDiscussions (for now) & it's an early beta version, I'm developing it. There are new ideas — look here: https://www.effectivediscussions.org/-32/how-hacker-news-can....

Install yourself: https://github.com/debiki/ed-server — or $2/month for hosting: https://new.ed.community/-/create-site/embedded-comments, main website: http://www.ed.community

What tech stack does your blog use? Maybe a link? (What do you write about?)

More alternatives to Disqus:

- Mozilla's Talk, https://github.com/coralproject/talk (open source, install yourself)

- Discourse, https://www.discourse.org/ (one needs to navigate to a separate page, to post a comment. Not threaded. Min $20/month. Open source.)

- HostedComments, https://www.hostedcomments.com/ (min $10/month)

- Remarbox, https://www.remarkbox.com/ (min $6/month)

- Schnack, https://www.vis4.net/blog/2017/10/hello-schnack/ (open source)

- Commento, https://github.com/adtac/commento (lacks moderation and spam-protection)

- And EffectiveDiscussions (https://www.ed.community), open source, or $2 per month.

I'm developing embedded comments, like Disqus. Here's how it looks (scroll down to the bottom):

https://www.kajmagnus.blog/new-embedded-comments

What tech stack does your website use? Can I ask what do you write about? Maybe a link?

Anyway, the commeting system I'm developing, has some unique ideas — look here: https://www.effectivediscussions.org/-32/how-hacker-news-can.... However, I haven't ported all that to embedded-comments yet.

It's open source for installation on your own server (https://github.com/debiki/ed-server) — or $2/month hosting if you don't want to install things yourself. Currently there are no installation instructions ... but I'm actually planning to deploy a new server version later today, with installation instructions.
