What does HackerNews think of ampache?

A web based audio/video streaming application and file manager allowing you to access your music & videos from anywhere, using almost any internet enabled device.

Language: PHP

I'm not sure if this would fit all your needs aside from running on Linux but Ampache [1][2] has been around for a very long time and has the ability to mesh with other instances. It started as a small project run by some college students and evolved over time. It is still very actively maintained. A few people have had issues with FLAC [3] but I have not been following them.

Ampache has been around for over 15 years but they are always improving. When it first started at a college I donated beer but they also accept money. [1] I think they would prefer contributions in the form of software development. [2]

This is very cool. I am curious if the maintainers could sync up with the folks that wrote Ampache [1] so people could use the two of them together, for those that stream their catalog locally using aes67.

I had never heard of Funkwhale. How does it compare (usability wise) to Ampache? Also decentralized, as in you can link databases with others [1]

It's a little time consuming to set up correctly and manage, but there is Ampache [1], for creating a scalable streaming music server that can be joined to others, so that catalogs are merged. It was created initially by a bunch of college kids (ok, they were college kids back then) at OSU and paid for with beer.

I've been running Ampache[0] for a while and been very pleased with it. It's on an old PC and I never have any issue when streaming from my workplace.

Within the last year the project ditched their website in favor of just using github. However, strangely they didn't migrate any the content from their website to it.
